Hello Färgglad Friend and welcome to January and 2025!
2024 was great for me. Not my best year ever but by no means bad in anyway. I know that I am incredibly privileged to live in a safe place and my full time work with surface design, illustration and online teaching is relatively stable. My family life is also great. Johan and I are finally getting married in 2025 after 16 years of being together. Feel like we’ve been even more smitten with each other while planning this wedding. We have so much to look forward to. I know that 2025 is also going to be a great year for me personally too. (Or at least I very much hope so.)
2024 was full of creating art and getting to know my mixed media even more. Again, I bought way too many art supplies. But they are just too difficult to resist. I think I’ve learnt to love working traditionally again. It’s almost to a point that I don’t find working on my iPad as thrilling anymore. I just want to play in my sketchbook all day. But that doesn’t pay my bills so I am hoping to get excited about my surface design work again this year. Last month in Decemeber in Collection Club I worked on intricate puzzle designs rather than my usual collections. So that was a nice first step. This was a way of working on something a little different and I think it really did help me to get excited about designing again and try new things. More of that in 2025! And like usual I am so happy to be able to share all of this development, process, inspiration and enthusiasm with you all in my different outlets.
Alright, moving on to what’s going on in January here on Substack, Patreon and Skillshare. Let’s go!
Substack:
Jauary 15th: Substack Theme Video Post. My 2024 Income Breakdown.
January 29th: Free Feedback Session. Make sure to be subscribed to this newsletter to be notified on when and how to submit for the free feedback session.
Patreon:
This month in Collection Club we are going to be working on Tea Party or Coffee Break inspired collections together. Food illustrations are always a hit and great to include in your portfolio. Can’t wait to see you there in Collection Club.
In my Fun Friday group we are going to be drawing inspiration from our favorite artists but in a very focused way with different themes each week. When I am intentional when learning from other artists I think I learn the most and I also hope that you will all get a lot out of this month learning from the greats!
(Look out for a separate post all about what’s going on in my Patreon groups with fun live drawing dates and other details coming in the next day or so.)
BTW I’m currently running a sale for monthly and annual memberships with 20% off. Head to Patreon to check that all out!
Skillshare:
Have you checked out my latest class, Digital Traditional Procreate Illustrations yet? It is such a nice class combining my two current loves, working in Procreate and traditional textures. I really hope that you’ll enjoy this class and learning about my favorite brushes to use to get that traditional look and other tips as well.
As always, I would love to know what you’d like me to teach next in an upcoming Skillshare class. I’m at a complete loss as what to teach next. Remember that new to Skillshare people can enjoy a free trial with my link here.
Thank you all for being here and sticking around during this move to Substack. I really hope that you’ll like it here and be able to navigate my content even better. If you haven’t noticed I have taken away the paid subscription option. I’ve decided that I prefer all my content here on Substack to be available to everyone. If you’d like more indepth content you can check out Patreon. :)
Have a great start to the year!
